IONIA, Uncertain Coinage, (late 7th century B.C.), electrum hekte or sixth stater, (2.188 grams), obv. two lion head's facing each other, rev. two incuse square punches, (S.-, cf.Weidauer 101, SNG Von Aulock -, Vismara Elektron -, Traite -, ACNAC Rosen -, BMC -, cf.Gorny & Mosch Sale 108 [lot 1242 for same type described as RRR]). Fine/very fine, and extremely rare.

This uncertain Ionian electrum hekte has previously not been recognised and to date a few examples have come to light. They represent the earliest coins bearing a type.
