THRACE, Kingdom of, Lysimachos, (305-281 B.C.), gold stater, (8.58 g), Amphipolis Mint, struck 28/7-282/1 B.C., obv. head of Alexander to right, with diadem and horn of Ammon, rev. Athena enthroned to left, supporting Nike, spear behind, caduceus to inner left, monogram to outer right, to right **BASILEWS*, to left **LUSIMACOU*, (cf.S.6813, Thompson -, Muller 109 corr. (monogram), HGC 3, 1743 var. (unlisted mint), G. F. Hill, "Greek Coins Acquired by the British Museum in 1927" in NC 1928, 23 = BM no. 1927,0506.6, Anadol 22-3, De Luynes 1809, Marasesti -, Berk BBS 209, 16 [same obv. die]). A few light scratches, lustrous extremely fine with mint bloom and a portrait of fine style, extremely rare with only 8 other examples published.
