SICILY, Syracuse, Deinomenid Tyranny, (c.485-466 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (18.35 g), struck under Gelon, c.478-475 B.C., obv. quadriga driven to right by bearded male charioteer, Nike flying right crowning horses, rev. **SUPAKOSION* around, head of Arethusa to right, hair slightly waved and turned up behind under diadem of beads, four dolphins around, (cf.S.913, Boehringer series IXa-X, - [unlisted dies], HGC 2, 1306). Lightly toned, slightly double struck, well centred, good very fine and very rare with unpublished dies.

Ex Anthony (Tony) Taylor Collection. ^CNG Auction 112, lot 86. Previously Kunker 153 (14 March 2009), lot 8155.^This rare type is not present in the Comiso, Ognina, Randazzo, or Selinute hoards.
