DIRK HARTOG'S PLATE, 1616, a pewter replica of the plate of the Dutch explorer, Dirk Hartog, that he left on the coast of Western Australia in 1616 and discovered by Willem de Vlamingh in 1697 and he replaced it with one his own and returned the Hartog plate to the Netherlands where it is kept at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the oldest known artefact of European exploration, the script on the plate is Dutch but there is a metal disc with an English translation attached to the back of the plate. Very fine copy of original plate.
