N.S.W. Rifle Association, Battalion Match For Bugle, prize medal in gold (14ct; 4.83g; 23mm), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed, 'Northern/Battalion/Winning/1873.', reverse inscribed, 'D.Mc Inness./No.2 Co.'. Very fine.

The Battalion Bugle competition was held on Friday 10 October 1873. The Northern Battalion scored 198 beating the Western Battalion by 12 points. Pte McInness from East Maitland was one of the ten members of the Northern Battalion and he had the fifth best score of his unit. Prizes were presented to the recipients at Victoria Barracks in Sydney on Saturday 25 October 1873 by His Excellency the Governor and Lady Robinson.
