AUSTRIA, Maria Theresa, restrike thalers, 1780X (KM.T1) (4, one proof); primitive cowrie shell money (3); soul currency, "kissie pennies" (5), salvaged from the Winterton wreck. Fine - uncirculated. (12)

Ex Alan McRae Collection, with his display tickets about the thaler and primitive currencies.^^The soul currency attributed to the wreck of the British East Indiaman Winterton, which wrecked seven miles off the western shore of Madagascar, hitting a reef whilst attempting to pass through the Mozambique Channel on the 20th August 1792. The ship broke apart on the 22nd, 250 passengers and crew survived.
