Lot 1748    SESSION 11 (11.30AM THURSDAY 16TH APRIL)    World Silver & Bronze Coins

Estimate $100
Bid at live.noble.com.au

THAILAND, Thai Kingdoms, (17th-19th centuries), debased silver tok chiangmai (pig mouth or oyster money), (63.18g), three circular countermarks on either side of the aperture, blackened top and yellowish-brown underside (cf Mitch 2800). Very fine as cast.

Ex Alan McRae Collection with his display ticket.^^The discolouration on the underside is traditionally attributed to the addition of egg yolk and chicken blood to the mould before casting. Recent work suggests the application of gold leaf may instead have achieved this finish.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
