GROUP OF SIX: 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Pacific Star; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (GVIR). First two medals unnamed, J.G.Hall F2454 on third medal, E2454. J.G.Hall. on fourth and fifth medals, and 2454. A.B. J.G.Hall.R.A.N.R. on last medal. The third medal is engraved and the last three medals are impressed. Court mounted, the first three medals with damage on reverse, all medals toned and the fourth and fifty medals with oxidation spots on obverse, otherwise very good - very fine.
Together with research and photos and a large colour photo of J.G.Hall in uniform with details, "To Darling Gloria. With/??? Of Love/Bill xxx"; a photo album of various photos including family photos; handwritten account of his time aboard HMAS Australia 1940-1944; large book titled The Royal Australian Navy Historic Naval Events Year by Year, 75th Anniversary 1911-1986 by Lew Lind, 347 pp with b&w photos throughout; green felt lined timber medal storage box.^Ex JB Military Antiques Sale 5 (lot 222) 28/10/2018.^Jeffrey "Bill" Gawen Hall, born in 1923 in Cottesloe, Perth, WA; raised his age from 16 to 18 when he enlisted in Fremantle, WA on 04Sep1939; joined HMAS Australia 03Mar1940; served in North Atlantic, attack on Dakar (Vichy French) convoys, capture of Vichy controlled areas, rescued downed air crew, patrols of Liverpool blitz and into the Indian Ocean. Returned to Australia 24Mar1941 and in Battle of the Coral Sea 07May1942. Present at Guadalcanal, Cape Gloster and Moratai and the kamikaze attack at Leyte Gulf; transferred to DEMS in Nov1944 as Gunner while HMAS Australia was undergoing repairs; Disch.06Oct1945.
