ITALY, Lucania, Herakleia, (330-280 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.760 grams), obv. head of Athena to right wearing laureate crested Attic helmet, ornamented with Scylla, above traces of I-HPAK**LHIW N*, K behind head, rev. I-HPAK**LHIWN* to right, **[AQA]* to left, Heracles standing facing, club in hand, holding lion's skin and club, [jug above to left], (cf.S.391; SNG Lloyd 276 [same dies, 6 reported], Work 80 [same dies], Van Keuren 85 [similar dies]). Weakly struck in places, from worn die, otherwise very fine and a rare type, with a clear reverse ethnic.
