ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.335-330 B.C.), silver stater or didrachm, (7.892 grams), obv. bearded Corinthian helmeted head of Leukippos to right, before traces of **LEUKIPPOS* behind dog seated left, **S* below neck tranche, rev. ear of corn, to left META, to right a bird with open wings, A[MI] below, (S.415, BMC 79-80, Johnston [NN&M 164] Class B, 3.x [new obverse die], cf.SNG ANS 447-9, cf.SNG Cop.1211). Attractive dark tone, extremely fine but weak on the barley ear on the reverse.
