GREAT BRITAIN, Rochester, Kent, Watts Charity notes, consisting of a note dated 10th June 1773 for fourpence, No.82; another, a warrant with arms of the City of Rochester at left, admitting the bearer, dated 29th November 1852, No.1. Sold with a copy of an article about Watts Charity by F.Philipson. Very fine - extremely fine. (2)

Watts Charity was formed by Richard Watts in his will of 1579. He provided money to purchase land finance the charity. A house was purchased in Rochester, Kent and set up to offer similar services to Alms Houses. Travellers were given a bed for the night, a bowl of hot soup and fourpence in the morning.
