SOLD $400

WILLIAM I, (1066-1087), silver penny, PAXS type, Uncertain mint, issued 1083-1086, obv. crowned diademed bust facing with sceptre, rev. cross pattee in each angle, an annulet in each corner with one letter of the word PAXS, around +GPRINCF..ON NC, (S.1257, N.848, Br.VIII). Very fine.

Ex H.P. Whittle Collection. The legend or reading of the reverse is largely conjectural and close comparison to the BMC catalogue and other illustrations does not help the interpretation of the moneyer and mint.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
