COMMODUS, (A.D. 177-192), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 183, (22.66 grams), obv. laureate head of Commodus to right, around M COMMODVS ANT ONINVS AVG PIVS, rev. around [PROV AVG TR P VIII I]MP VI COS IIII P P, S C across field, Providentia standing to left, holding long sceptre and baton pointing to globe at her feet, (S.5793, RIC 379, C.620, BMC 502A). Light brown patina, short on flan, very fine and scarce.
