CASSIUS, (43-42 B.C.), silver denarius, mint moving with Brutus and Cassius, (3.66 grams), obv. veiled and diademed head of Liberty to right, C. CASSI. IMP LEIBERTAS around, rev. jug and lituus, LENTVLVS SPINT below, (S.386 [£275], Cr.500/5, Syd.1305, C. Cassius 6 [£160]). Unevenly toned, good very fine and very scarce.
Ex. British Museum Duplicate by donation in 1872 and Eton College Collection, Sotheby's London, December 1, 1976, (lot 417 illustrated [œ170]) and from W. Woolmer Sydney, November 1982 by exchange. Crawford has determined that less than 30 obverse dies were used for this type.
