SOLD $300

NERO, (A.D. 54-68), silver denarius, issued c.65-66, Rome mint, (3.130 grams), obv. laureate head to right of Nero, around NERO CAESAR AVGVSTVS, rev. Jupiter seated left on throne, holding thunderbolt and sceptre, IVPPITER [CVST]OS around, (cf.S.1943, RIC 45, BMC 74, RSC 119). A nice example, dull grey patina, good fine.

Ex B.A. seaby, Ltd, London in 1979 with their ticket for Å“120. The issue is in all probability a reference to Nero's deliverance from the conspiracy of C. Calpurnius Piso in A.D. 65.
