MARATHAS, Poona (East India Company issues from 1820-1834), silver rupees, Fasli era dates, 1230, 1238, 1241, 1243 (1820, 1828, 1831, 1833), (KM. 217). Very fine or better. (4)
Ex. Robert Senior England by private treaty. Rupees were first struck at Poona during the Mogul occupation at the end of the 17th century. By the middle of the 18th century the city was dominated by the Marathas and they struck coins until 1818. The third Maratha war resulted in the capture of Poona by the British and the East India Company took over the mint of Poona and issued the above coins from FE 1230-1244 (1820-1834).
