Sir William Macarthur (1800-1882) was the youngest son of John Macarthur, he was born at Parramatta and with his brother James from 1817 made farm improvements his father had envisaged. He was an outstanding sheepbreeder. In 1822 both got grants of 1150 acres each at Camden and expanded their holdings from that date by 1849 they held 28,000 acres at Camden.
