HUVISHKA, (c.A.D. 260-292), gold stater or dinar, (8.01 grams), obv. bust of upper part of king nimbate to left, wearing rounded leather helmet and tight-fitting tunic, holding a mace in his right hand, legend around, rev. God Siva with four arms standing to left, holding vijra (a vase from which coins are poured), and to right a mriga (an antelope), behind legend downwards OHPO, (Gobl 155 [obverse die 153.1], M.3199). Superb extremely fine and very rare.

This type was not present in the Dr. Lawrence Brilliant Collection of Kushan gold, in the Spink-Taisei, Singapore sale 9. Siva or Oehsho (havesha) was lord of all, giver of life and receiver of the dead and judge of the underworld. He was also the consort of the mother (fertility) and earth goddess known as Ardoksho (Nana).
