Estimate $30,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $26,000

NEW SOUTH WALES, five shillings or holey dollar 1813, struck from a Charles IIII Mexico City Mint eight reales of 1805 (Mira-Noble 1805/9, dies I/4 - A/4). A strongly struck countermark and the coin very dished, a striking example of a holey dollar, toned, very fine or better and rare.

Ex. S. Lipscombe, Dr P.H. Bullock, C.E. Pitchfork and S. Kemp Collections, Spink Australia Sales 5 (lot 926) and 13 (lot 965) and Noble Numismatics Sale 46 (lot 1498). The blurred appearance of the matrix could have been caused by overheating just prior to counterstamping the coin.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
