SYRIA, Kingdom of, Demetrius II, second reign, (129-125 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.53 grams), Antioch mint, issued 129-125 B.C., obv. diademed and bearded head of Demetrius II to right, filleted border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and sceptre, on right, **BASILEWS DHMHTRIOU* and to left QEOU NIKATOPOS*, under throne **D*, **X* in exergue, (cf.S.7102, ACNAC Houghton 286 [this coin], cf.Newell 321 which has **X* on far left rather than under the throne). A few light surface scratches, otherwise nearly extremely fine, very rare.
Ex. Arthur Houghton USA and Jay P. Dawley USA collections (CNG Sale 36 lot 2057). This variant has only previously been described in ACNAC Houghton and has consequently been published from this coin.
