REPUBLIC, Julius Caesar, (assassinated 44 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued February-March 44 B.C., an issue immediately prior to Caesar's assassination on the Ides (15th) March, issued in the name of the moneyer P. Sepullius Macer, (3.9 grams), obv. laureate head of Julius Caesar to right, CAESAR before, [DICT] PERPETVO behind, rev. Venus standing to left, holding Victory on extended right hand, and sceptre in left hand, resting on shield, set on globe, to right P. SEPVLLIVS MACER, (cf.S.362, Cr. 480/9, Syd.1074, BMC 4173). Off centred on obverse, with banker's marks, a good clear portrait and light tone, otherwise very fine and a rare type.
