AUGUSTUS AS OCTAVIAN, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), silver denarius, mint moving with Octavian, issued 40 B.C. by Q. Salvius, (4.03 grams), obv. bare head of Octavian to right around C CAESAR III VIR R P C, rev. thunderbolt, around Q SALVIVS IMP COS DESIG, (S.449, Cr. 523/1a, C.514, Syd.1326b, BMC Gaul 88). Has been holed, otherwise attractive even grey tone, good fine/very fine and rare.

Ex. Duke of Northumberland collection, published by Admiral Smyth, `The Northumberland Cabinet of Roman Coins', published 1856, No. XIV, 3, and purchased at Glendinings November 4, 1982 (lot 449).
