AUGUSTUS, (27 B.C. - A.D. 14), AE as, Lyons (Lugdunum) mint, issued 15-10 B.C., (7.54 grams), probably a barbarous copy, obv. laureate head of Augustus to right, around [CAES]AR PONT MAX, rev. ROM ET AVG in exergue, front elevation of the altar of Lyons, decorated with the corona civica between laurels, flanked by nude male figures, to left and right Victories on columns facing each other, (S.508, RIC 230, C.240, BMC 550), another (8.93 grams) with countermarks of wheel with central dots and dots between spokes on obverse and VAR monogram in square on reverse (CBN 1571 [same countermarks], another similar, AE semis in name of Tiberius issued A.D. 11-14, (5.02 grams), (S.564, C.36, RIC 246, BMC 588). Good; fine, countermarks very fine; fine, second very rare, last scarce. (3)
