HENRY VIII (1509-1547), Supremacy of the Church, silver cast medal, by H. Basse?, 50mm, (46.8 grams), 1545, obv. Henry VIII bust draped to right, wearing large cap and cloak, two circular legends around, rev. text in Hebrew and Greek, (Eimer 26, M.I. 44b [p.47-48], illustrated Pl.III, 6). An attractive 18-19th century copy, of good style, extremely fine and very scarce.
Ex. Seaby Coin & Medal Bulletin, May 1989 (M93) with ticket. The original medal was no doubt struck to commemorate the acknowledgement of Henry as the sole Protector, the only and supreme lord of the church and clergy of England. The Hebrew and Greek inscriptions on the reverse are the same as the Latin inscription on the obverse.
