ITALY, Calabria, Tarentum (Taras), (420-380 B.C.), silver stater, (7.90 grams), obv. naked rider cantering to left, holding bridle with both hands, E(reversed)**L* below, rev. Taras astride a dolphin to right, within line border, (cf.S.336, Vl.319 [same dies], cf.SNG ANS 877). Slightly off centre, attractive tone, sharp strike, good very fine and a very rare type.

The letters beneath the horse Ravel believes are those relating to the artist as his signature.
