MACEDON, Kingdom of Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver drachm, (4.47 grams), Abydus mint, issued c.328-323 B.C., obv. head of Herakles wearing lion skin to right, rev. Zeus seated to left, eagle in outstretched hand, Hermes to left, under throne X, **ALEXANDPOU on right, (S.6731, Price 1502, BMC 1502a-b, Muller -, Thompson 28a). Extremely fine/good extremely fine and rare.
Ex. Harlan J. Berk with his ticket. $$ The use of the god Hermes as a symbol on the reverse is unusual and interesting and only occurs on coins from this mint at this time. The variant of this type was known to Muller and 14 specimens in all are known to exist in Thompson.
