SEPTIMIUS SEVERUS, (A.D.193-211), silver denarius, (2), Rome mint, obv. laureate head to right, L SEPT SEV PER[T AVG IMP] VIIII, rev. [MVNIFICENT]IA AVG, elephant to r. (S.1766, RIC 100). Small flan as usual, good fine and scarce.

An interesting representation of an elephant on the reverse as a reference to the emperor providing public spectacles and games.
