CARACALLA, (A.D. 198-217), silver denarius, issued 211, Rome mint, obv. laureate head to right of Caracalla, around ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT, rev. Victory running to right on prow, holding wreath and palm, around P V/M TR P XIIII COS III PP, (S.-, RIC 185, C.188). Weakness on head on reverse, otherwise with light golden attractive tone and extremely fine, scarce.

The obverse title BRIT(annicus), first granted in 210, and the Victory reverse, both allude to his victory that he lead, that was achieved in Northern Britain. The reverse legend appears to have a V re-entered over M, an unpublished variant.
