COVENTRY, Sharp's halfpenny, 1797 (in Roman numerals) (D&H 312). Mostly dark brown patina with traces of mint red, uncirculated and very rare, only 48 struck.

Purchased from Spink in 1975. Thomas Sharp (1770-1841) author of the Chetwynd token catalogue. The Georgian house, where Sharp was born, is said to have been the same building from which Peeping Tom watched Lady Godiva ride naked through the streets.
