'HOMMA' MEDAL - 35MM SILVER MEDAL. No ribbon. Rare. Very fine.

General Homma Masaharu was the commander of Japanese forces in the Philippines during the initial attacks and early occupation. Some time in 1942 a medal commemorating the expedition to the Philippines was struck at Homma's behest. Since the obverse design shows a soldier looking across Manila Bay at Corregidor, it seems that the medal may have been struck before that island fell.
