REPUBLIC, Mark Antony, triumvir, committed suicide (30 B.C.), silver denarius, mint moving with Antony, issued 41 B.C., obv. bare head of Antony to right, ANT [AVG IMP III] V R P C, around, rev. [PIET]AS COS, Pietas standing left, holding rudder and cornucopiae, stork at feet, (S.-, Cr. 516/2, Syd. 1174). A forceful portrait, with flat spot on both sides, otherwise very fine and rare.
Struck by Lucius Antonius and denotes the piety shown by him towards his elder brother, whose portrait and name he placed on the obverse.
