MEDINA, Jose Toribio., Monedas Y Medallas Hispano - Americanas. Laminas, Santiago 1891. 90 plates, no text, Some plates loose. Fine and rare.
Mateu y Llopis p.229. It has been estimated that only fifteen or fewer copies are still extant of the estimated 100 copies originally printed. This is Medina's first numismatic work and the only one issued without text. The plates are remarkably useful in themselves even without text. Medina (1852-1930) published twenty works on this topic, many are which are standard works, he was a prolific writer with some 350 titles to his credit. As a result of his titanic labour, representing the writing, editing or translating of more than two hundred books and brochures and one hundred articles, he has been called 'the greatest bibliographer in Christendom' and 'the prince of Americanists'. (Spink - Kolbe December 1994)
