SHAH JAHAN I, (A.H. 1037-1068, A.D.1628-1658), large round gold mohur, struck at Shahjahanabad mint, issued A.H. 1066 (A.D. 1655-6), Regnal Year 30, obv. Kalina in centre within circle, date in outer legend, rev. legend 'Shah Jahan Badashah Ghazi' and Regnal date within central circle, mint name around edge, (BMC 568, KM. 262.1). Small edge cut with porosity, has been mounted on the edge, otherwise good very fine and extremely rare.
Shahjahanabad was the new imperial city founded outside Delhi by Shah Jahan. Mohurs from this mint are very rare and are only known for the last few years of his reign and these are all known struck from this broad flan in the size of a nazarana.
