Bid at live.noble.com.au

PORTUGUESE MALACCA, Manuel I (1511-1521), tin bastardo, (46.5 grams), issued 1511-1515, Malacca mint, 1st and 2nd issue, obv. standard Manuel I legend, but with cross instead of arms of Portugal, rev. the armillary sphere, (Saran Singh M.18, Vaz E1.16). Very fine and scarce.

This was struck probably as the second issue under De Brito Patalim as First Captain of Malacca 1512-1515. The second issue utilises the cross of the Order of the Knights of Christ which what appears on this issue. The price of tin rapidly increased from 1512 causing a drop in weight from 52 grams to 35 grams by 1515 for the bastardo.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
