NERO, (A.D. 54-68), gold aureus, Rome mint, issued A.D. 50-54, struck as Caesar, (7.45 grams), obv. bare headed bust of Nero to left, around NERO CLAVD [CAES DRVSV]S GERM PRINC IVVENT, rev. around SACERD COOPT IN OMN [CONL SVPR]A NVM EX S C, simpulum to right on left, lituus to left on right above a tripod and patera respectively, (S.665, RIC 76 (Claudius), BMC 84). Heavily worn, possibly has been mounted, otherwise very good and rare.
