AL-MUTAWAKKIL, (A.H. 232-247) (A.D. 847-861), gold dinar, Misr mint (Cairo, Egypt), A.H. 242, = A.D. 856-857, with additional field inscriptions, on the obverse el-Muqtadir billah' (powerful through Allah) and the reverse 'li-Ilah' (to Allah) and 'El-Mutawakkil billah' the name of the caliph, (A.229, M.211, BMC 321). Weak in places, slightly crinkled, otherwise very fine and rare.
A similar specimen was in our sale 45 (lot 4023 at $1650).
