MUZAFFARIDS, Shah Shuja ibn Mohammed, (A.H. 759-786) (A.D. 1358-1374), silver two dirhams of the standard 769-773 (2.88 grams), Aberquh mint, A.H. 772 = A.D. 1370-1371, (A.2282, cf.M.1762-3). Very fine and scarce.
The Muzaffarids were appointed by the Ilkhan Ghazan Mahmud to govern a small district near Isfahan and was succeeded by his son Muhammed in A.H.713. His authority grew stronger as the Ilkhans grew weaker and he achieved full independence in A.H. 746. After prolonged combat against the Injuid Abu Ishaq, Shiraz was conquered in 754 and south-western Iran finally pacified (notably Isfahan) in 758 when he executed Abu Ishaq. Mohammed extended the Muzaffarid realm as far north as Tabriz before he was deposed and blinded by his son Shah Shuga in 759. After various internal dynastic disputes the Muzzaffarid realm was incorporated into Timus's Empire.
