SICILY, Syracuse, reign of Hiero II (275-215 B.C.), silver sixteen litrai, (13.64 grams), obv. diademed and veiled head of Philistis to left, behind thyrsus, rev. quadriga to right driven by Nike with horses walking, above BASILISSAS, below FILISTIDOS, crescent above, trace of A to right, (S.989, SNG ANS 876). Extremely fine and rare.
