MACEDON, kingdom of Philip II, (359-336 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (14.15 grams), Amphipolis mint, posthumous issue c. 315-294 B.C., obv. head of Zeus laureate to r., rev. naked youth or small man (Philip II), on horseback to r., torch below in field, H**G monogram to right, above FILIP POU. (cf.S.6680, Le Rider Pl.47, 17 [same dies], M.36). Superb portrait of Zeus, in high relief, round attractive pale grey tone, good very fine and rare.
