CONSTANTINE IX (1042-1055), histamenon nomisma, 4.40 grams, struck at Constantinople mint, scyphate flan, Class II, obv. Christ enthroned facing, with nimbus, hIS instead of IhS in legend, rev. Constantine bust facing beardeds wearing loros, saccos and crown, in right hand labarum, and in left hand cross on globe, triple border, (S. 1829, DOC 2b). Large flan, extremely fine and a very rare variant.
