GROUP OF FOUR:- Military Cross (GVR); British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal; British War Medal 1939-45, Lieut A.S. Hawker A.I.F. Impressed, MC engraved on reverse 'Lieut A.S. Hawker 50th Btn AIF Sep 12th 1918'. Last medal also engraved 'Col. M.C.' , After naming with hand made identity disc. Very fine.
MC: C.G. 29 Jan 1920: For gallant work work on the night 12/13th September, 1918, near Le Verquier. He led his platoon of 25 men against a position held by two companies of the enemy, of whom his platoon killed fourteen, his own casualties being two men slightly wounded. He killed six himself. The information gained enabled his battalion to attack with three platoons ona frontage of 1,000 yards in advance a further 700 yards, gaining important high ground, and capturing 42 prisoners with eight machine guns.
