PISHKINDS (KINGS AT AHAR) COINAGE, Mahmud b. Pishkin c.(A.H. 608 - 623) (A.D. 1212 - 1226), large copper dirhems, all in better than average, condition, generally identifiable to date, noted A.H. 613 issues, all with good Arabic legends (A.1916, Hennequin Nos. 1581-1598), Very good to very fine. (8)
ex Robert Senior 1988 by private purchase. Essentially nothing is known of the kings of Ahar, not even their chronology. They apparently ruled in the Adharbayjani town of Ahar, which was their only recorded mint town, as vassals first of the Atabegs and later of the Khwarizmshah Jalal al-Din Mangubirni, who returned to Iran from India in A.H. 621. Ahar coins indicate that the local kings ruled from A.H.592 until the 620's (A.D. 1195-1220's). The coinage consists entirely of large (30mms) heavy bronze (16 grams) dirhams, struck at Ahar.
