ANDRONICUS II AND MICHAEL IX PALAEOLOGUS, (1295-1320), joint reign, gold hyperpyron (scyphate), obv. bust of the Virgin, within city walls, */K to left, */N to right, rev. Andronicus II and Michael IX to left and right with Christ standing between crowning both emperors, (S.2396, Bendall p.62 No.1, and type 3, p.135 Num. Circ. June 1961). Large flan, weak in places as usual, otherwise extremely fine and a very rare variant.
