Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $180

PALESTINE, Samaria, Caesarea, Nero, (A.D. 54-68), (9.70 grams), AE 21, obv. laureate bust to r. of Nero, with countermarked of XF on neck, rev. Tyche standing to l., holding sceptre and bust, (Kadman 8, reported 3 known, BMC 21, SNG ANS 756, cf.S.629). Good - very good and rare.

Ex. Abramowitz Collection (USA). $$ The XF countermark refers to the Roman Tenth legion (Legio Decima Fretensis) who not only participated in the fighting of both the Jewish War (First Revolt) and the Bar Kochba War, but also was garrisoned in Palestine from this time. A most interesting and historical coin.
