AWADH, Brijis Qadr, (1857-1858), Lucknow mint, gold mohur, A.H. 1229 fictional year, regal year 26, issued 1857-8, (KM. 390, C.135). Extremely fine and extremely rare.
Ex Spink & Son, London September 1978, This coin is distinguished from the actual issue of 1229/26 by the form of the mint name, which is Suba Awadh in place of Muhammadabad Benares found on the issues of Sa'adat Ali struck in 1229. Brijis Qadr was the son of the last king, Wajid Ali Shah, deposed in 1856, and was set up as nawab and vizier by the leaders of the Great Uprising of 1857-8. (The Indian Mutiny). He was deposed, upon the British occupation of the city of Lucknow in March 1858.
