LEO VI THE WISE, with associate ruler Constantine VII, (A.D. 886-912), gold solidus, Constantinople mint, (3.55 grams), issued A.D. 908-912, obv. Christ enthroned facing, wearing nimbus, raising right hand in benediction, in left hand, the gospels, around IhS XPS REX REgNANTIUM, rev. Leo on left and Constantine on right, standing facing, each wearing crown, holding between them a long patriarchal cross, each holds, globe with surmounted cross. around LEON ET CONSTANT AVGG (S.1725, D.O.2, BMC 2-3). A clipped specimen, short of flan, otherwise nearly very fine and rare.
