ATTICA, Athens, (166-57 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.94 grams), issued 168-7 B.C., (Thompson date), but probably 138-7 B.C. (revised chronology), obv. head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing triple-crested Athenian helmet, ornamented with Pegasus and foreparts of horses, rev. owl standing to right, head facing, in erect posture, on prostrate amphora, to left club, lion skin and bow in case, legend across A YE HPA, ARISTOF POLUM, D on amphora, HP below, all within olive wreath, (cf.S.2555; Thompson 332c [1 specimen noted it being in Athens Museum]). Has been cleaned, otherwise good very fine and a very rare variant.
