REPUBLIC, Julius Caesar, (assassinated 44 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, issued 47-46 B.C., obv. head of Ceres to right, around COS TERT [DICT] ITER, rev. Simpulum, aspergillum, jug and lituus, AVGVR above, PONT MAX below, D to right, (S.356, Cr. 467/1a, Syd. 1023). Very fine.

The coinage was probably struck to pay his successful legions after the battle of thapsus, 6th April 46 B.C., The head of Ceres is emblematic of Africa and its corn producing wealth.
