BARODA, Anand Rao (A.H. 1215-1235, A.D. 1800-1819), in the name of Muhammad Akbar II (A.H. 1221-1253, A.D. 1806-1837), Ahmadabad mint, silver rupee, year 1227, regal year [6] off flan, (1812), (cf.KM. C.28). Large flan with delightful grey even patina, extremely fine and rare.
Ex Stan Goron Collection with his ticket and Robert Senior England, by private treaty. $$ Ahmadabad was a Mogul city that became a Maratha city, in A.H.1214, (A.D. 1800), the Gaikwads (Rulers of Baroda) attacked and captured the city. The Maratha Peshwa made no attempt to retake the city but after negotiations leased it to the Gaikwads for four years, this was further renewed for ten years. However by 1814 the Peshwa refused to renew the lease and this caused a collapse in prosperity of the city. After further negotiations it was handed over to the British with a formal transfer in December 1817 (A.H. 1233).
