GEORGE VI, Melbourne Mint proof penny 1945. A brilliant red and brown specimen striking, FDC and excessively rare. The only example in private hands. Ex Museum of Victoria Duplicates Sale (lot 953). In this final year of World War II Melbourne did not strike currency pennies only those struck by Perth were supplied to Treasury. This coin along with the 1945 shilling is one of the rarest Australian coins and destined to become one of our most prized rarities.
